To contend for the faith, you have to enter the ring to win!  In this teaching we look at some warnings Jude gives as coaches the early church to contend.  He lays out 4 ways to get yourself killed in the fight

  1. Treat the Church as a Commodity
  2. Activity vs. Accomplishment
  3. Ignoring the Coming Judgment
  4. Self-Centered Living

To contend for the faith you can’t cheat.  Jude gives us an example of those that want to cheat in their way to victory.  Our life as Christians is to be marked by something radically different.  Jude approaches three themes in a parallel form.  In this teaching we unearth those parallels and consider what it means to contend the way God wants us to contend.

Hey Jude: Put Up Your Dukes

Title: Put Up Your Dukes
Text: Jude 1-4

What does it mean to “contend for the faith”?  What is our faith and how can it be undermind?  In this teaching we kick off the new series by considering what our faith is and why we should contend for it.

Contending for the Faith
The word “contend” means to fight, to take an offensive posture, lace up the gloves, be the first one in the ring to take on those that would undermine our faith.  God wants you to beat down those things which will infect and distort your engagement of God’s grace and the person of Jesus Christ.

Jude points to three expressions of Faith

  1. Your Faith expressed thru Relationship
  2. Your Faith expressed thru Belief
  3. Your Faith expressed thru Lifestyle
